The Hamburg Triathlon for pros and age groupers alike has been a mainstay since 2002. During this time, it has been included onto the ITU World Triathlon Series, thus joining an exclusive circle of eight iconic venues around the globe. 130 top athletes compete for crucial Championship points, until a World Champion is crowned in the Grand Final at the end of the season.
Apart from the 130 pro athletes, about 10,000 age group participants take part in the hanseatic city. They have the option of taking to the start as individual competitors or as part of a relay team on either the sprint or the Olympic distance. One of the highlights of the Triathlon in Hamburg is most notably the popular course routing: the swim section in the Alster River, the bike circuit along the “Elbchaussee” and the spectacular home straight on Hamburg’s “Rathausmarkt”. Age groupers and elites will be cheered on by 300,000 enthusiastic spectators throughout the course as they compete.
In addition, the pupils triathlon “Hamburg City Kids” has been held just before the kick off of the Dextro Energy Triathlon Hamburg in Hamburg’s city park since 2005. Close to 4,000 pupils from 70 schools get their first experience of the triathlon sport on an age-appropriate course. A win and a place on the podium aren’t given first priority at the Hamburg City Kids, but more finding fulfilment in just participating and enjoyment in working up a sweat.
The limited race slots for the Dextro Energy Triathlon Hamburg are ultimately sold out each year. Secure a slot for yourself here from 6 December 2011 onwards for the 2012 instalment.
Be part of it and feel the spirit!
