Elite
World Championships returned to Hamburg

Hamburg is one of the venues for the new World Championship series by the International Triathlon Union Union (ITU):

Dextro Energy Triathlon  ITU World Championship Series

pdfResults Elite Men 2009

As of 2009, the World Champions are no longer selected in a single event - but through a points system during eight events throughout the season. New standards will be set in triathlon sports with very attractive venues in the centre of the World’s most famous cities, a guaranteed world wide TV presence and prize money for the whole series total US$ 2 million.

Due to its successful concept, the Hamburg City Man became the example for the series events. There will be, for instance at each promotion, an Age Group event. A junior and U23 World Championship will be held at the last venue, in conjunction with the so called Grand Finale.
